Seven Bagatelles, composed for Flute, Trumpet in Bb and Piano, is a complex work of contrasting movements unified through a tapestry of thematic ideas, rhythmic patterns, rich harmonic colour and carefully balanced phrasing.
In writing the piece, Graham explored the textural challenges of combining three prominent solo instruments, shaping a dialogue that allows each voice to emerge with clarity and purpose.
The work offers moments of striking virtuosity and varied playing techniques, set against passages of calm in which the performers support one another, creating both tension and cohesion across the cycle.
