About the song
A reflection on recognising the value of a relationship after it has slipped away. Regret becomes an appeal to cherish the people who bring light into our lives, and to show them what they mean while we have the chance.
I gave Nikki two songs to choose from. “Once in a Lifetime” had a finished chorus and verse melodies, but no verse lyrics. She preferred it to the completed song, so I finished the writing and recorded a draft in a day. The production was completed over the next few days. It was a very quick turnaround.
Lyrics
Verse 1
I lost track of time, thought all was fine, I didn’t know you were leaving me When did it go, your inner glow?, I was so wrapped up that I couldn’t see.
Chorus
That maybe once in a lifetime, you’ll find some to care Someone who’ll lift you, who will inspire you Someone whose light is always there. Just maybe once in a lifetime, you’ll find a love so rare Take care to show it, Take care to hold it The world grows dark when it’s not there.
Verse 2
Never crossed my mind, there’d ever come a time, that’s you’d be no longer with me If I can say, please if I may, I’m so sorry that I couldn’t see.
Chorus
That maybe once in a lifetime, you’ll find some to care Someone who’ll lift you, who will inspire you Someone whose light is always there. Just maybe once in a lifetime, you’ll find a love so rare Take care to show it, Take care to hold it The world grows dark when it’s not there.
Middle 8
Who’d have thought there’d be a time that, I’m not yours and you’re not mine, I should have never let you go, I’m sorry that I didn’t show you all the things I felt inside, I was just to lost inside my mind but now I realise that maybe once….
Chorus
That maybe once in a lifetime, you’ll find some to care Someone who’ll lift you, who will inspire you Someone whose light is always there. Just maybe once in a lifetime, you’ll find a love so rare Take care to show it, Take care to hold it The world grows dark when it’s not there.

About the song
A tender moment suspended between the intimacy of a night together and the uncertainty of what follows. The song lingers on touch, warmth and the wish to stay close without breaking the spell.
Lyrics
Verse 1
Don’t say it’ll never happen, don’t say a word. You know last night felt so right, You should have stayed all night
Bridge
That touch, your taste and such a warm embrace, It felt so near as you pulled me near.
Chorus
Don’t say a word, don’t spoil the moment that we shared, Don’t say a word, we’ll share this tender loving care.
Verse 2
I know, I know, you didn’t want to go; you held on so tight, Then your heart reached out, it stole mine. This embrace feel so right.
Bridge
The sound of your voice, it warms my soul The touch of your hand makes me feel like man
Chorus
Don’t say a word, don’t spoil the moment that we shared, Don’t say a word, we’ll share this tender loving care.
Chorus
Don’t say a word, don’t spoil the moment that we shared, Don’t say a word, we’ll share this tender loving care.
Chorus
Don’t say a word, don’t spoil the moment that we shared, Don’t say a word, we’ll share this tender loving care.
Chorus
Don’t say a word, don’t spoil the moment that we shared, Don’t say a word, we’ll share this tender loving care.

About the song
A quiet reassurance to a partner whose fears make it difficult to trust that things are going well. The song asks them to look at the life being built together, recognise how far they have come and believe that the love is still there.
The original version was written and recorded in 2012. While mastering Once in a Lifetime, I felt its production no longer fitted the album. At 11.30pm, I started again. Four hours later, a completely new arrangement had emerged, with only the original lead and backing vocals surviving.
The album also includes an extended mix with piano and guitar solos.
For reasons I can’t entirely explain, it remains my favourite song I’ve written.
Lyrics
Verse 1
Slip off your dress and close your eyes, just relax. Don’t fear a change, it’s all the same, we’re on the rise.
Verse 2
I’ll say your name until you sleep! It’s alright. It’s all the same, I still feel the same, we’re on the rise
Bridge
Here the words I whisper softly in your ear; Dissolving all your fears. Relax, let go. You already know.
Chorus
Let’s say, we’re on the rise. Look back and see, we’re on the rise. It’s your mind saying something (that) you know in your heart just ain’t right. Come on, we’ve seen enough to know, we’re on the rise.
Verse 3
No need to fear that I’ll leave your side, it’s alright. Nothing has changed, it’s all the same, we’re on the rise.
Verse 4
I’ve got your back and you’ve got kind, just relax It’s all the same, we’ll win the game, we’re on the rise
Bridge
Take my hand, trust that your fears are in your mind; (they’re) making you feel blind. It’s just not so, you already know.
Chorus
Let’s say, we’re on the rise. Look back and see, we’re on the rise. It’s your mind saying something (that) you know in your heart’s not right. We’ve seen enough to know, we’re on the rise.
Chorus
Let’s say, we’re on the rise. Look back and see, we’re on the rise. It’s your mind saying something (that) you know in your heart’s not right. We’ve seen enough to know, we’re on the rise.

About the song
A portrait of someone whose beauty attracts attention but does little to ease her loneliness. Repeated disappointments reveal a deeper wish: to be understood beyond appearances and loved for the vulnerable person underneath.
Lyrics
Verse 1
She sits alone in the dark, just waiting. Wondering how to change her luck and what's the price. Here comes another sucker to tell her that she's pretty. She doesn't need to hear it, she's heard it all her life.
Chorus
She's still alone, she still seeks love. She wants someone to call her own. She's still alone, she still seeks love, she's pretty, whys she still alone? She tries again by he's not the one. What's she doing wrong? She's still alone she still seeks love. Why's she still alone?
Groove
Verse 2
She keeps on falling for the bad boys, they always hurt her. She can't help but chase, it motivates her mind. And then she thinks, "maybe this time, maybe this one, I can tame him". Again he breaks her heart, why's he so hard to find?
Chorus
She's still alone, she still seeks love. She wants someone to call her own. She's still alone, she still seeks love, she's pretty, whys she still alone? She tries again by he's not the one. What's she doing wrong? She's still alone she still seeks love. Why's she still alone?
Groove
Verse 3
She's longing for the one to see the real her. To see right past the image, her fragility inside. Can't they see it? Can't the sense it? ... She's lonely. So alienated, she's felt this all her life.
Chorus
She's still alone, she still seeks love. She wants someone to call her own. She's still alone, she still seeks love, she's pretty, whys she still alone? She tries again by he's not the one. What's she doing wrong? She's still alone she still seeks love. Why's she still alone?
Chorus
She's still alone, she still seeks love. She wants someone to call her own. She's still alone, she still seeks love, she's pretty, whys she still alone? She tries again by he's not the one. What's she doing wrong? She's still alone she still seeks love. Why's she still alone?

About the song
An expression of anticipation and love for a child yet to arrive. Dreams of first smiles, first steps and a shared future sit alongside a promise to offer comfort and stand beside them through whatever life may bring.
Lyrics
Verse 1
I always hoped one day to start a family, In that way, to make my life complete Sharing life and all the possibilities I could feel you there, I'd place the world down at your feet.
Chorus
I can't wait to see all the things that you'll be, my child Come into my life. I can't wait to hold you, to love and console you, my child Come into my life.
Verse 2
The world can hold such wonders it's magical But at time the world can seem unkind Just the though of you astounds me; it's a miracle All you need to know, is I'm always at your side.
Chorus
I can't wait to see all the things that you'll be, my child Come into my life. I can't wait to hold you, to love and console you, my child Come into my life.
Middle 8
... Will brighten with your first, and watching that first smile Your first steps bring years to my eyes. And even in your darkest day know that I'm right by your side my child Come into my life.
Chorus
I can't wait to see all the things that you'll be, my child Come into my life. I can't wait to hold you, to love and console you, my child Come into my life.

About the song
A song about the absence left by the death of a partner, felt most sharply in the ordinary moments once shared. Walking home, waking in the night and reaching for familiar closeness become expressions of grief and the longing to have that person beside you again.
Lyrics
Verse 1
Walking home in darkness, the moon lights my tear-stained face I can't feel you at my side that used to be your place Oh no, how many tears I cried Oh no, I feel alone inside.
Verse 2
Wake up in the night, hoping to hear you breathe, I want to pull you close, to feel your heart beat next to me Oh no, when will the hurt subside? Oh no, I feel alone inside.
Chorus
And I, I miss you. Oh, is it such a crime? that I should miss you and I wish you were still in my life?
Verse 3
Deafened by the silence of only hearing my own breath. Surely that should bring me comfort? Should it not relieve the stress? Oh no, so cruelly life denied Oh no, I feel alone inside.
Verse 4
A touch that holds no feeling, a chest that only aches. Is there a hope of healing a heart that only breaks? Oh no, no other can provide Oh no, I feel alone inside.
Chorus
And I, I miss you. Oh, is it such a crime? that I should miss you and I wish you were still in my life?

About the song
An inner voice offers reassurance when life feels overwhelming and the way forward is difficult to see. It is a conversation with the part of ourselves that still believes we can endure: a quiet promise to keep going, rebuild and reach the other side.
Lyrics
Verse 1
You say that you can’t cope That no matter how you try Your life, your mind, your heart are falling apart You don’t think you can make it alone
Verse 2
I know you hurting deep down inside You don’t know which way to turn You feel beaten, bruised and ache to the core You can’t find a way out any more
Chorus
I can’t show you right from wrong, I can help you make it through I’ll help you mend your heart; get back on you feet Don’t worry now…I’ll see you through
Verse 3
The thoughtless words they say cut you like a knife How could they be so cold? Hate won’t give release don’t push away my hand Your anger will keep you alone
Chorus
I can show you right from wrong, I can help you make it through I’ll help you mend your heart, get back on you feet So don’t worry now…I’ll see you through

About the song
The imagined inner voice of someone living with dementia asks for patience, dignity and understanding. As memories slip away and familiar relationships become confusing, the song gives voice to the fear beneath the surface—and the enduring need to feel safe, loved and connected.
Lyrics
Verse 1
Please don’t pity me, I’ve still got my pride Although I make mistakes, it’s still me inside Just care for me, just comfort me when I get all uptight Be there for me, reassuring me (that) even when I’m wrong, I’m right.
Bridge
I’m more than a little bit scared, now I’ve lost the memories we’ve shared
Chorus
Maybe there were times we didn’t see eye to eye But despite my faults I still loved you inside and I may not be the man I used to be But I need you now like you used to need me My Child… please don’t cast me aside Before I say goodbye.
Verse 2
Don′t be so hard on me, I don't mean any harm I may fight for me, but now I′m weak and I'm disarmed Just talk to me, just let me see, echoes of who I was I'm scared you see, I′m losing me, please hold me just because
Bridge
I’m more than a little bit scared, now I’ve lost the memories we’ve shared
Chorus
Maybe there were times that we didn’t see eye to eye But despite my faults I still loved you inside and I may not be the man I used to be But I need you now like you used to need me My Child… please don’t cast me aside Before I say goodbye
